I thought it was pretty damn awesome. :D Sure, there were some (a lot of) parallels with ANH... but that's expected, with the way Star Wars is cyclical.

The new cast was great, though I kinda wished Luke had more. (spoilers)

Poe, man. Poe is THE SHIAT. :D

Ok, gonna say it. I was underwhelmed.

The story was very derivative but I can do that - David Eddings made me immune to it.

The effects and fights were nothing special - in 1977 when Star wars first appeared it was spectacular and I think nothing will ever impact me like that again - at least not in the same series. Having just rewatched the Hobbit - the Hobbit was better.

That said, I didn't hate it, I will watch the next ones but I have to admit to being a little disappointed after all the hype and hullabaloo.

As one of my friends wisely put it, "This is part 1 in a 3-part movie." So the beginning is going to be a little... rough, as they feel out the characters and the story.

Most of the criticism I've heard about the movie is "it's too much like ANH!"... and, honestly, if that's the worst to say about it, that's pretty high praise, really. :)

They've already broke $1.5B after 17 days in theatre... they're doing something right. ;)

Not really, Twilight and 50 Shades made a crapload of money... :P

But as I said I shall watch the rest and we'll see what we shall see. :)

"being profitable" is a little different than "#4 all-time in less than a month" ;)

... Are we clear for spoilers yet? :)

I agree zep, certainly did alot right. I have a few issues with it but even as an expanded universe geek certainly ones I can let go of. Overall totally impressed with it.
